Temple Paper Casts
2020 - 2022
Cast Paper, Spray Paint, and Cradled Panel
Mormon Women automatically become members of the Relief Society at the age of 18. In the 1990s, the Relief Society held “Homemaking” activities involving crafts, cooking, disaster preparedness, and more. Paper Casting became a popular crafting activity and was embraced by Relief Society groups throughout Utah. The delicate, low-relief paper casts of Mormon temples were made popular by a Mormon mother of six from Highland, UT, Dion Barron.
I sought out the same terra cotta molds to create contemporary interpretations of the Salt Lake City temple.
