Personal Progress
The church’s Personal Progress Program is intended to be the teenage female equivalent to the Boy Scout Program, which Mormon boys are obligated to participate in. Girls aged 12-17 earn the Young Womanhood Recognition Award over the course of six years by:
Attending sacrament meeting regularly (where possible).
Living the standards in For the Strength of Youth.
Completing the value experiences and value project for each of the eight values.
Keeping a personal journal.
Attending seminary or participate in independent study (where available).
Reading the Book of Mormon regularly.
Recording testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ.
The First Presidency wrote of Personal Progress:
“…choose goals that will help you cultivate feminine virtues, grow spiritually, and reach your divine potential. Take advantage of your time in Young Women by preparing to receive the sacred ordinances of the temple, to be a faithful wife and mother, and to strengthen the home and family.”
