Eeyore Plush
Eeyore was my favorite of the Winnie the Pooh characters. I was always thrown off by the masculinity and dreariness of Eeyore’s voice when I heard him talk. He was so sweet looking with the pink bow in his tail, I was sure he was a girl until I heard the voice. Then I wasn’t sure if I was still allowed to like him ‘cause his voice wasn’t cute. But, I found Piglet’s voice and nervousness too annoying, Tigger was already my sister’s favorite, and Roo just wasn’t enough a part of the core Winnie the Pooh gang, y’know? So I went back to Eeyore in the end and that’s why I had this stuffed animal. I did and still do like his blue color and big schnoz.
Why was it so important that I settle on a favorite character? Winnie the Pooh was startlingly popular in the 90s, I guess because of the series The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, especially among middle class suburban kids. My high school math teacher was obsessed and often wore a pair of Winnie the Pooh overalls and decorated the classroom with Winnie the Pooh stuff, which I always thought odd. But then again, I was really into Buffy the Vampire Slayer at that time.
